What is Toastmasters?
Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational corporation with a
mission to improve communication and leadership skills.
What will I learn at Toastmasters?
In Toastmasters you will learn how to successfully formulate, express and
sell your ideas and yourself and get rid of that nervousness you feel when
called upon to speak. You will improve your ability to listen to and
evaluate other people's ideas and you will learn leadership skills along the
way.

How often does Last Word Toastmasters meet?
Our club normally meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month,
7:15 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. at the Burlington Public Library on 22 Sears Street.
Can I just come and watch for a while without joining?
Yes. All meetings are open to the general public.
How many times can I come before I have to join?
As often as you want to.
Who do I talk to about joining?
The Vice President of Membership or, if not available, the Vice President of
Public Relations. (Click here to see a list of
the club officers.)
When can I join?
Anytime.
How much does it cost to be a member?
Annual Dues are $66 plus a one time new member fee of $20. Dues are prorated
- cost, $5.50 a month. Our fiscal year starts in April therefore. If you join
in October for example, your dues would cover months October through March,
6 months x $5.50 = $33 plus the $20 one time new member fee, total due $53.
What materials are provided to me?
When you join you will receive a packet of material that includes
everything you need during your first month as a Toastmaster. You will
receive your basic Communication and Leadership manual from Toastmasters
International in approximately three weeks. In addition, as a member you
will receive a monthly Toastmasters magazine from Toastmasters
International.
Who decides which member performs what function during a meeting?
You do by signing up for a speaking role, two to three meetings in
advance.
After I join am I on my own?
No - Last Word Toastmasters has a mentor program whereby you may ask
another member, or request that a member be assigned to you, to function as
a mentor to help you with your progress in Toastmasters.
